Almuhtada.org – Talking about the afterlife, so we imagine is heaven and hell. Two places that are so opposite.
Heaven is so highly desirable because it is full of enjoyment. In the other hand, hell is so scary, because full of painful punishment.
The two of the places is so popular for all the religion. Because since little which we often hear it is heaven and hell.
Even though there is one place that is also very important. It’s called A’raf. A’raf is also the name of the surah in Al-Qur’an, which is Al-A’raf
It explained in surah Al-A’raf verse 46-49
وَبَيْنَهُمَا حِجَابٌ وَعَلَى الْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالٌ يَعْرِفُونَ كُلًّا بِسِيمَاهُمْ وَنَادَوْا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ أَنْ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَمْ يَدْخُلُوهَا وَهُمْ يَطْمَعُونَ (46) وَإِذَا صُرِفَتْ أَبْصَارُهُمْ تِلْقَاءَ أَصْحَابِ النَّارِ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ (47) وَنَادَى أَصْحَابُ الْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالًا يَعْرِفُونَهُمْ بِسِيمَاهُمْ قَالُوا مَا أَغْنَى عَنْكُمْ جَمْعُكُمْ وَمَا كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَكْبِرُونَ (48) أَهَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ أَقْسَمْتُمْ لَا يَنَالُهُمُ اللَّهُ بِرَحْمَةٍ ادْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَا أَنْتُمْ تَحْزَنُونَ (49)
Meaning:
“46. And between them (the inhabitants of heaven and hell) is a limit; and above A’raf are those who recognize each of the two groups by their signs. And they call out to the inhabitants of heaven: “Salaamun ‘alaikum”. They have not yet entered it, but they wish to enter it immediately.
- And remember they were transferred to the Direction of the Inhabitants of Hell, they said: “O our Lord, do not place us with the evildoers”
- And the people above speak of those (leaders of the disbelievers) whom they know by their signs saying: “The wealth you collect and what you can brag about, tell you it’s benefit.”
- The people on A’raf ask the inhabitants of hell, “Are these the people whom you swore that they would not have Allah’s mercy?”. (To the confirmed believers): “Enter heaven, no one will challenge you nor (will you) be sad”. (Al-Qur’an surah Al-A’raf verse 46-49)
Scholars of tafsir have a different opinion about Al-A’raf. According to some scholars, it forms a mountain. Others say it consists of gates.
So, who is the inhabitants of A’raf? Al-Hafidz ibn Katsir said:
ﻭاﺧﺘﻠﻔﺖ ﻋﺒﺎﺭاﺕ اﻟﻤﻔﺴﺮﻳﻦ ﻓﻲ ﺃﺻﺤﺎﺏ اﻷﻋﺮاﻑ ﻣﻦ ﻫﻢ؟ ﻭﻛﻠﻬﺎ ﻗﺮﻳﺒﺔ ﺗﺮﺟﻊ ﺇﻟﻰ ﻣﻌﻨﻰ ﻭاﺣﺪ ﻭﻫﻮ ﺃﻧﻬﻢ ﻗﻮﻡ ﺳﺘﻮﺕ ﻭﺳﻴﺌﺎﺗﻬﻢ، ﻧﺺ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﺣﺬﻳﻔﺔ ﺑﻦ ﻣﺴﻌﻮﺩ ﻭ ﺣﺪ ﻟﻠﻪ
Scholars of tafsir have very different opinion of who is the inhabitant of A’raf? All of the opinion is almost the same, which is a balance between reward and sins. This is discussed by a friend from Hudzaifah, Ibn Abbas, Ibn Mas’ud and many Salaf and Khalaf scholars. May Allah have mercy on them.
According to some narrations, at the end, the inhabitants of A’raf will go to heaven, after all findings have been completed depending on their respective places, heaven or hell. [] Fahdina Dean
