almuhtada.org – Imran bin Hushain was one of the sahaba of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) who was known as a qadi (judge) and a reliable narrator of hadith. His full name was Imran bin Hushain bin Ubaid bin Khalaf al-Khuza’i, a figure from the Khuza’ah tribe, a descendant of the Bani Ka’bi, who was nicknamed Abu Nujaid.
As a noble friend of the Prophet, Imran bin Hushain was known for the strength of his faith and his role in spreading the teachings of Islam. He converted to Islam alongside his father, Hushain bin Ubaid, and the famous friend Abu Hurairah, in the year of the Battle of Khaybar (629 CE), and during the capture of Mecca, Imran carried the banner of the Khuza’ah tribe.
The Story of Imran bin Hushain, the Expert in Worship
Imran bin Hushain RA was one of the friends of the Prophet Muhammad SAW known for his righteousness and sincerity in worship. He was a figure who deeply loved Allah SWT and His Prophet, and dedicated his entire life to worship and spreading the teachings of Islam.
Since becoming a Muslim during the Battle of Khaybar, Imran has demonstrated a strong commitment to living a righteous life and avoiding all kinds of sin.
Imran bin Hushain’s life was marked by honesty, humility, and strong faith. He always lived a simple life so that he could focus on worshiping Allah SWT without being distracted by worldly matters.
His fear of Allah SWT was so deep that he often cried in his prayers, worried that his deeds had not yet been accepted by the Creator. Those tears were not a sign of weakness, but rather proof of his deep love and obedience to Allah SWT.
When it came to worship, Imran was known to be very disciplined and did not want to be disturbed by anyone. When prayer time arrived, he would set aside all worldly affairs and simply wanted to be with his God in sujud and dhikr.
He always used his time to get closer to Allah SWT with complete sincerity. Because of this dedication, many friends and generations after him made him a role model for devotion in worship.
During the rule of Caliph Umar bin Khattab, Imran bin Hushain was once sent to Basra to teach the faith to the people. There, he was known as a gentle and wise scholar in guiding the community. With great compassion, he guided the people of Basra to understand the pure teachings of Islam and avoid conflict. His knowledge earned him the respect of many, not only as a teacher but also as a figure whose life was in harmony with his teachings.
When a major conflict arose between Caliph Ali bin Abi Talib and Muawiyah, Imran chose not to take sides with either faction. He urged the Muslim community not to get involved in the conflict but rather to maintain unity and strengthen their faith. For him, maintaining peace and Islamic unity was far more important than winning a political conflict. This position demonstrated his wisdom and broad perspective as someone who truly understood the essence of Islam.
Throughout his life, Imran always advised others to continue getting closer to Allah SWT. He emphasized the importance of sincere worship, patience in trials, and tawakal (trust in Allah) in every situation. Yet behind that strength, Allah SWT tested Imran with a severe illness for thirty long years. The illness weakened his body, but it did not shake his spirit in worship in the slightest.
Throughout that long illness, Imran continued to pray with patience. He never complained about his suffering; instead, he always praised Allah SWT in every situation.
When his friends came to visit and comfort him, Imran said calmly, “Truly, what I love most is what Allah loves most.” His words revealed how sincere and accepting he was of God’s fate.
As his death approached, Imran advised his family not to be overcome by sadness. He even requested that a feast be held after his funeral as a sign of gratitude to Allah SWT.
To some, this request might seem strange, but for Imran, death was not the end of everything. He viewed death as a journey toward eternal bliss in the presence of Allah SWT.
Imran bin Hushain passed away in a state of husnul khatimah, leaving behind an example of extraordinary patience, sincerity, and strength of faith. His life was a reflection of a true man of worship who never grew tired of struggle in the way of Allah SWT.
His soul is believed to have been lifted in glory, as promised to those who are patient and obedient. Imran’s life story serves as a valuable lesson that true happiness does not lie in worldly pleasures, but in closeness to Allah, the Most Merciful. [Fahdina Dean]
