Almuhtada.org – She was a female companion of the Prophet. Her name was Su’airah al-Asadiyyah, known as Umm Zufar. Su’airah al-Asadiyyah was from Habsyah, Ethiopia. She was a woman who had a black skin, who believed in Allah and His Messenger with complete sincerity.
It is a parable of light and clear evidence of patience, confidence and pleasure in what Allah, the Creator of this universe, has destined. She was a woman who come and speak with the leader of those who are struck by disaster and the imam for those who are patient, Rasulullah (p.b.u.h).
It has been narrated by al-Bukhari in his authentic book with his sanad from ‘Atha’ bin Abi Rabah, he said, Ibn Abbas said to me: “Do you want me to show you a woman who will be the resident of the heaven?” I answered: “Yes, of course.”
He said: “This is the black woman. She has came to see the Prophet then she said: “I actually have epilepsy, which when it recurs, my nakedness parts are exposed without realizing it. Pray for me to recover.”
The Prophet said: “If you brave enough to be patient, you will earn in heaven. But if you really want it, I will pray to Allah, so he can heal you.”
Then she said: “I will be patient.” Then he said: “Indeed, I (if I relapse without realizing my nakedness) are exposed, so ask Allah so that my nakedness are not exposed.” So the Prophet prayed for her. (Hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari)
She did not despair of Allah’s mercy and was patient with the calamities, because she knows it is something that is required by Allah.
With this belief, Su’airah prioritized the afterlife over the world, because what is with Allah is better and eternal. And when she was given the choice between heaven and healing, she preferred the eternal heaven. However, apart from that, she asked the Prophet to pray that her nakedness would not be exposed if his illness recurred.
So from this story, we can learn that we need to be grateful to Allah. Adhering to the shar’i hijab is the way to true glory and victory, because it is the crown of honor.
In her request, Su’airah only asked that the disease which caused her to lose consciousness not be the cause of her nakedness being exposed.
It has been reported that the Prophet said in several hadiths.
1)عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : «صِنْفَان من أهل النار لم أَرَهُما: قوم معهم سِيَاط كَأذْنَابِ البَقر يضربون بها الناس، ونساء كاسِيَات عاريات مُمِيَلات مَائِلات، رُؤُوسُهُنَّ كَأَسْنِمَةِ البُخْتِ المائِلة لا يَدْخُلْن الجَنَّة، ولا يَجِدْن ريحها، وإن ريحها ليُوجَد من مَسِيرة كذا وكذا»
“There are two groups of people in hell that I have never seen: one people who have whips like cow’s tails with which they whip people, and women who are dressed but naked, flirtatious and seductive, (the hair of) their heads are like the sloping hump of a camel . Indeed, they will not enter heaven and will not even find its smell, even though the smell of heaven can be found from such and such a distance (far).” (Narrated by Muslim)
2) اَلْمَرْأَةُ عَوْرَةٌ ، وَإِنَّهَا إِذَا خَرَجَتْ مِنْ بَيْتِهَا اِسْتَشْرَفَهَا الشَّيْطَانُ، وَإِنَّهَا لاَتَكُوْنُ أَقْرَبَ إِلَى اللهِ مِنْهَا فِيْ قَعْرِ بَيْتِهَا
“A woman is (entirely) naked. When he leaves (the house) Satan will make them appear beautiful in front of those who look at them.” (Narrated by Tirmidhi)
And Allah says in the Koran, Surah Al A’raf: 179:
وَلَقَدْ ذَرَأْنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيْرًا مِّنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْاِنْسِۖ لَهُمْ قُلُوْبٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُوْنَ بِهَاۖ وَلَهُمْ اَعْيُنٌ لَّا يُبْصِرُوْنَ بِهَاۖ وَلَهُمْ اٰذَانٌ لَّا يَسْمَعُوْنَ بِهَاۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ كَالْاَنْعَامِ بَلْ هُمْ اَضَلُّ ۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْغٰفِلُوْنَ
“Indeed, We have made the contents of hell most of the jinn and humans. They have hearts, but they do not use them to understand (Allah’s verses). And they have eyes (but) they do not use them to see (the signs of Allah’s power). And they have ears (but) they do not use them to hear (the verses of Allah). They are like livestock, they are even more misguided. They are the ones who are negligent. (Qs Al A’raf :179)
This is the Su’airah al-Asadiyyah, a woman who was praised by the Prophet for her patience and ‘iffah. Hopefully, thjs story can be a reference for female Muslims on how to be the residents of the heaven. [] Fahdina Dean Yustisia
