Almuhtada.org – Prophet Ishaq AS was the son of Prophet Ibrahim AS. He married an Iraqi girl who was later blessed with twins.
The story of the marriage of Prophet Ishaq AS is told in the book Menengok Kisah 25 Nabi & Rasul by Ahmad Fatih, S.Pd. Prophet Ishaq AS married an Iraqi girl named Ribka.
Prophet Ishaq AS never got married, until one day his father, Prophet Ibrahim AS, asked one of his servants to go to Iraq to find a wife from the Ibrahim family for his son.
The servant then married a daughter of Bethuel bin Nahor, that is Ribka (Rifqah, Rafiqah) to Ishaq. It is known that Nahor was the brother of Prophet Abrahim AS, so in lineage, Ribka was the daughter of Ishaq’s cousin.
Finally, when the Prophet Ishaq was forty years old, he married Ribka who then came with the Prophet Ishaq to live in Palestine.
The Birth of the Sons of Prophet Ishaq and Ribka
After marrying an Iraqi girl of Ibrahim’s bloodline named Ribka, Prophet Ishaq AS found out if Ribka turned out to have a condition of barrenness like her previous mother.
But Prophet Ishaq AS and his wife, Ribka, never gave up trying and begging Allah Ta’ala to be given children to continue the mission of da’wah. Prophet Ishaq AS always prayed gently and confidently to Allah SWT so that Ribka could get pregnant.
With the greatness and power of Allah SWT, Ribka became pregnant and Prophet Ishaq AS had children. When he was sixty years old, Ribka gave birth to twin baby boys.
The first baby boy was named Esau (Aishu). Esau’s physical form when he was first born was having a red body and like a hairy robe (having a lot of hair all over his body). While the second baby boy was named Yaqub who when born was in a position holding his brother’s heel.
Allah SWT memorialized the story of Yaqub’s birth in the Qur’an as stated in Surah Al-Anbiya’ verse 72. “And We have given him (Ibrahim) Ishaq and Ya’qub, as a gift (from Us). And each of them We made a righteous man.” (QS. Al-Anbiya’ verse 72).
Later when he grew up, Yaqub was destined by Allah to become a prophet who continued the mission of his father, Prophet Ishaq AS, as the prayer that his father always prayed to Allah SWT. [] Fahdina Dean Y
