almuhtada.org – Hell is a place of final destination that is described as miserable because it is full of torture. Allah SWT is said to have forbidden hell for four groups of people, namely hayyin, layyin, qarib, and sahl. Who are they?
The description of the torture of hell is explained in the Qur’an, surah An-Nisa’, verse 56. Allah SWT says,
Meaning:
“Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses, we will surely cast them into Hell. Every time their skins are roasted, we will replace them with other skins so that they may taste the punishment. Indeed, Allah is Ever-Powerful and Wise.”
Quoted from the book Jangan Pernah Bosan Berdoa (Never Get Tired of Praying) by Risyad Bay, hayyin, layyin, qarib, and sahl are explained in a hadith narrated by Abdullah bin Mas’ud RA. One day, the Prophet Muhammad SAW asked his followers, “Would you like me to show you the people who are forbidden from touching the fire of hell?”
The followers replied, “Yes, O Rasulullah.”
The Prophet Muhammad then said, “(Those who are forbidden from the fire of Hell are) the hayyin, the layyin, the qarib, and the sahl.” (HR Tirmidzi and Ibn Hibban)
4 Groups of People Forbidden from the Fire of Hell:
1. Hayyin
Hayyin refers to those who possess calmness both physically and mentally. The presence of those with the trait of hayyin is soothing and calming. They are far from being temperamental, as they can control their thoughts, feelings, hearts, and attitudes.
2. Layyin
Layyin is a group of people who are gentle, polite, and respectful. The words and actions of those with the trait of layyin are words and actions that do not hurt, offend, or humiliate others.
An example of someone with the trait of layyin is the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) who loved his people with great kindness.
3. Qarib
Qarib is a group of people with warm, friendly, sociable, and pleasant personalities. They do not have attitudes that make others uncomfortable, hurt, or offended.
This qarib trait comes from the behavior of humility. Humble behavior makes a person comfortable with themselves, so others also feel comfortable around them. On the other hand, those who feel arrogant and look down on others feel uncomfortable with themselves, as they constantly demand others to respect, honor, and treat them specially.
4. Sahl
Sahl refers to those who are simple and dislike unnecessary complications. People with the trait of sahl approach everything in a balanced manner, addressing each issue according to its specific circumstances, conditions, and proportions.
Prayer for Worldly and Afterlife Blessings
In addition to making efforts to adopt the traits of hayyin, layyin, qarib, and sahl, Muslims can also pray to be spared from the punishment of hell and all evils in the world. The prayers that can be recited are prayers for worldly and afterlife blessings.
Quoted from the book “Collection of Answered Prayers to Open the Doors of Prosperity” by Sulaeman bin Muhammad Bahri, here are some prayers for worldly and eternal salvation.
