almuhtada.org – Allah SWT is very accepting of repentance, but if repentance is made after the sign of the end of the world, anyone’s repentance will no longer be accepted. This is explained in several hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
The time of the Judgment has never been mentioned in the Qur’an or hadith. Only Allah SWT alone knows when Judgment Day will arrive. However, the signs have been explained by the Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Before the sign of Judgment appears, anyone who repents will be accepted by Allah SWT. In the Qur’an, Allah SWT says in the Surah At-Tahrim verse 8
Meaning:
“O believers, repent to Allah with repentance nasuhaa (the purest repentance). It is hoped that your Lord will cover your mistakes and enter you into a jannah with rivers flowing underneath, on a day when Allah will not disgrace the Prophet and the believers who are with him; and their light will shine before them and on their right, while they will say: “O our Lord, make perfect for us our light and forgive us; surely You are over all things”.
No matter how big the mistake, when making repentance, it will be forgiven as long as it is meant to be a nasuha repentance. However, repentance made after the signs of the end of the world will not be accepted.
Signs that the Sun Rises from the West as a Sign of the End of the World
It is explained that repentance is not accepted after the rising of the sun from the west.
Allah SWT says, in Surah Al-An’am verse 158
Meaning:
What they await is nothing but the coming of angels to them (to take their lives) or the coming (of punishment) of your Lord or the coming of some verse of your Lord. On the day of the coming of a verse from your Lord, it will be of no benefit to one’s faith to himself who has not believed before that, or he has not done any good during the period of his faith. Say: “Wait for yourselves; indeed, we are also waiting”.
Al-Bukhari narrated, we are told by Abu Hurairah, Rasulullah SAW said:
“The end of the world will not occur until the sun rises from the west. When it rises from the west, all the inhabitants of the earth will believe, but at that time faith will be of no benefit to anyone who did not believe before.”
Al-Bukhari also narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said:
“The end of the world will not occur until the sun rises from the west. When the sun rises and people see it, they will all believe. That is when a person’s faith will no longer be beneficial to him. After that he recited the above verse.”
While Imam Ahmad narrated from Abu Hurairah, the Prophet said:
“There are three events that when they occur, a person’s faith is no longer useful to him. who previously did not believe, or (has not) done good in the period of his faith, namely: the rising of the sun from the west, the appearance of smoke and creeping animals from the earth.”
Hadith from Abu Sharihah Hudhayfah ibn Usaid, the Prophet said,
“The end of the world will not come until you see ten signs: the rising of the sun from the west, smoke, creeping things, the appearance of Yajuj Majjuj, the coming down of the Prophet ‘Isa ibn Maryam, the Dajjal, three earthquakes, once in the west and once in the east, and once in the Arabian Peninsula, and a fire coming out of a ravine in Aden that leads people -or gathers people-, it stays with them at night, and stays lit waiting for their sleep during the day.”
In Sahih Al Bukhari and Sahih Muslim from Abu Dhar, the Prophet said to me,
“Do you know where this sun goes when it sets? No, I replied. The Messenger said: Indeed he went to prostrate himself under the Throne then asked permission (not to rise again). Therefore soon it will be said to him, ‘Return from whence you came. It is at that time that a person’s faith is of no benefit to him, who did not believe before, or (has not) done good during the time of his faith.
When is repentance no longer accepted?
Imam Ahmad narrated from Ibn Sadi that the Prophet said: “Hijrah is useless while the enemy is fighting us.”
And in a hadith narrated by Imam Ahmad, At-Tirmidhi – and he declared this hadith saheeh -, An-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah from Shafwan bin Assal, he said, I heard the Prophet say,
“‘Indeed, Allah opens the door of repentance in the west, seventy or forty cubits wide. It will not be closed before the sun rises (from there).”
The above-mentioned mutawatir hadiths, in addition to the verses of the Qur’an, are proof that a new believer or repentant person.
Al-Baihaqi narrated from al-Hakim that he said: “The first sign of the end of the world will be the Dajjal, then the coming down of the Prophet Isa, then the breaking of the wall of Yajuj Majuj, then the coming out of the creeping things, and then the sun will rise from the west.”
Al Hakim said, “Because when the sun rises from the west, everyone will believe. So, if it is said that the Prophet Isa will come down after the sun rises from the west, then those who believe after the sun rises cannot be called disbelievers.”
Al-Hakim’s opinion needs to be examined further, because the faith of the inhabitants of the earth at that time was actually of no use to them, and so was the faith of someone who previously did not believe. Therefore, if a person only believes or repents at that time, his faith and repentance will not be accepted, unless he had believed or repented before that.
In the Qur’an, Allah SWT says through Surah An Nisa verse 159:
“None of the People of the Book will believe in him ( Isa ) before his death. And on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them. “ (An-Nisa’: 159) [Fahdina Dean]
