Story of Qais, Who Fainted During Fasting Ramadhan

Almuhtada.org – In the history of fasting Ramdhan, there is a story of Nabi Muhammad’s friend named Qais bin Shirmah.

He fainted when fasting Ramadhan, and he got reported to rasulullah. This story is closely related to the revelation of the Qur’anic verse on fasting.

Then, What is the story of Qais bin Shirmah who fainted while fasting in Ramadan?

One day in Ramadhan, Qais is a Farmers and herders return to his home, but he hadn’t eat and wanted to break the fast.

While waiting for his wife cooking, beacuse Qais is tired, he decided to lay down, over slept until fajar came. His wife can’t stand, then she woke him up at dawn and asked not to fast first because he was weak.

At that time, fasting was a new lesson. Qais doesn’t want to break Allah’s rule and Rasulullah’s order.

Short story Qais immediately began his usual routine of passing by in the fields. In the afternoon, he got tired.

In the field, on afternoon, he sat for a while. His stomach was rumbling. He feels that the fields is dark, then he passed out.

The people were in shocked and help Qais to bring to his home. The incident that happened to Qais was reported to Rasulullah.

Rasulullah then understand what has Qais felt, He just wanted to fulfill his religious commandments, as best he could.

Not long enough after the accident, the verse of the Qur’an was revealed. The word of Allah is contained in Q.S al-Baqarah [02]: 187

“It is lawful for you on the nights of the fasting month to have intercourse with your wives; they are clothing for you, and you are clothing for them. Allah knows that you could not restrain your lusts, so He forgives you and gives you pardon. So now mix with them and follow what Allah has determined for you.”

Not long, another ayat came:

“And eat and drink until the white thread of the black thread, which is dawn, becomes clear to you.”

Based on this verse, it was then allowed to eat and drink and relationships with partners at night were also allowed.”
