almutada.org-In the book I’anatuth-Thalibin Chapter Luqatah by Abu Bakar bin Muhammad Syatha Ad-Dimyati, a story of a friend who made Rasulullah SAW shed tears is told.
It was Abu Dujanah Radhiallahu’anhu, the Prophet’s friend from the Khazraj tribe who made the Prophet cry. Besides being known as brave on the battlefield, Abu Dujanah was also a person who really kept himself and his family from haram things. One day, after the morning prayer in congregation with the Prophet, Abu Dujanah always hurried home without following the ba’da prayer offered by the Prophet. Rasulullah tried to find out the cause of Abu Dujanah’s habit.
“O Abu Dujanah, do you not have a request that you need to pray to the face of Allah so that you often leave the mosque before I finish praying?” he asked.
Abu Dujanah replied, “Well, Messenger of Allah,” Abu Dujanah began his story.
“Our house is right next to a man’s house. On top of the yard of our neighbor’s house, there is a tall date palm tree, its branches hanging down to our house. Whenever the wind blows at night, my neighbor’s dates fall on each other, landing on our house.”
“O Rasul, we are a poor family. My son often goes hungry. When our children wake up, whatever they get, they eat. Therefore, after the prayer, we hurry home before our children wake up. We collect the dates of our neighbors that are spread around the house, then we return them to their owners.”
Abu Dujanah then told the story of how his son once ate a date that fell from his neighbor’s tree. So, he tried his best to get the date out of his son’s mouth.
“Son, do not embarrass your father in the hereafter.” My son cried, both his eyelids flowing water because of extreme hunger.
O Rasulullah, we said back to my son, “Until your life is gone, I will not be willing to leave haram treasures in your stomach. All the haram contents of the stomach, I will take it out and I will return it along with other dates to its rightful owner.” Hearing the story, the eyes of Rasulullah glazed over, his tears fell so heavily. Rasulullah tried to find out who exactly was the owner of the date tree referred to by Abu Dujanah. Abu Dujanah also said that the date tree belonged to a hypocrite man.
Rasulullah immediately went to the owner of the date tree told by Abu Dujanah. The Prophet then said, “Can you sell the date tree? I will buy it with a tree worth 10 times as much. The tree is made of blue emerald stone, sprinkled with red gold, the stalk is made of white pearls. There are angels who are beautiful according to the number of dates available.” said the Prophet offering.
The hypocrite then replied firmly, “I have never traded using the maturity system. I will not sell anything except for cash and want to be paid right now.”
Suddenly Abu Bakr as-Siddiq came. He said, “Yes, I have bought ten times as many dates as you have of a type not found in this city (of a better type).”
The hypocrite was delighted and said: “Yes, I sold it.”
Abu Bakr replied, “Good, I’ll buy it.” After agreeing, Abu Bakr immediately handed over the date tree to Abu Dujanah.
The Prophet then said, “O Abu Bakr, I will pay for you.”
Hearing the Prophet’s words, Abu Bakr was overjoyed. So was Abu Dujanah. Meanwhile, the hypocrite walked to his wife. Then told her what had just happened.
“I have made a good profit today. I got ten better date palms. Yet the dates I sold are still in my yard. I will eat them first and I will never give any of the fruit to our neighbor.”
That night, as the hypocrite slept, and woke up in the morning, suddenly his date palm tree changed its position, standing on Abu Dujanah’s land. And it was as if the tree had never been seen growing on the hypocrite’s land. The place where the tree had grown from was now levelled with the ground. He was surprised beyond belief.
This is the story of the friend and the date tree that made the Prophet cry. The lesson we learn from this story is the carefulness of the friends to protect themselves and their families from haram food. Then the date palm tree that changed position was one of the miracles of the Prophet which was immediately felt by the friend Abu Dujanah.[]Fahdina Dean
