Almuhtada.org – The Prophet Muhammad once held back from capturing one of the ifrit jinn who was disturbing his prayers.

In fact, it is said that at that time, the Prophet Muhammad was ready to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque.

This story is recorded in a hadith narrated by Abu Ad Darda’ and reported by Imam Al Bukhari and Muslim. At that time, the Prophet Muhammad saw. was preparing to stand up to do prayer.

However, suddenly the friends heard the Prophet Muhammad saw. say, “I seek refuge in Allah from you. I curse you with the curse of Allah,” three times while spreading his hands as if taking something. This was something they had never heard or witnessed before.

Until, one of the friends then dared to ask the Prophet Muhammad saw., “O Rasulullah, we heard you say something in prayer that we have never heard you say before.

We also saw. you stretch out your hand?”

The Prophet then told them that he was being disturbed by a jinn while praying.

He replied, “Indeed, Satan, the enemy of Allah, came with a flaming arrow to place it on my face.”

After that, the Prophet Muhammad saw. announced that he had recited the prayer, “I seek refuge in Allah from you. I curse you with the curse of Allah,” three times. However, this was not enough to make the ifrit jinn leave, and it remained unmoved.

After that, according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he grabbed the ifrit jinn.

However, he then released it and said, “By Allah, if it were not for the prayer of my brother, Sulaiman, that ifrit jinn would have been bound and become a plaything for the children of Medina.” (HR Bukhari and Muslim)

In another narration from the story of Abu Hurairah ra. from the book Fushul fi Al Imarah wa Al Amir, a similar story is told.

At that time, the Prophet Muhammad saw. said that the ifrit jin spat on him one night and uttered words to disturb his prayer.

The Prophet saw. managed to capture the jinn under his control with the permission of Allah Swt.

He said, “Then I wanted to tie him between the pillars of the mosque so that you could all see him before dawn.

However, I remembered the words of my brother, Sulaiman,” (HR Bukhari and Muslim)

The meaning of Prophet Sulaiman a.s words from the words of the Prophet Muhammad saw. is the words writte in Surah Shad verse 35. It reads as follows:

قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَهَبْ لِيْ مُلْكًا لَّا يَنْۢبَغِيْ لِاَحَدٍ مِّنْۢ بَعْدِيْۚ اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

Meaning:
He said, “O my Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that no one after me will deserve. Truly, You are the Most Generous.”

In this regard, Humam Hasan Yusuf Shalom, in his book Sulaiman: Raja Segala Makhluk (Sulaiman: King of All Creatures), argues that the Prophet Muhammad saw.  refused to capture and defeat the ifrit jinn even though it had disturbed his prayers.

The Prophet Muhammad saw. did this so that the miracle of Prophet Sulaiman a.s, who defeats jinn and demons, would remain exclusive to Prophet Sulaiman a.s. [] Fahdina Dean Yustisia
